One muggy afternoon in July of 2014, a teenage fangirl named Sophie was sitting in her backyard scrolling through her Tumblr feed, daydreaming. It was the era of “Tumblr music” – The 1975, The Neighbourhood, Arctic Monkeys and Lana Del Ray were leading the way in a new wave of hypnotic, alternative tunes. Doc Martens, Polaroid cameras and skater skirts were trending, and suddenly everyone had a record player. The previous April, Sophie had camped out for over 10 hours to see her favorite British boyband, The Wanted, in the front row. She never could have guessed that her 16-year-old dreams were about to come true – the band pulled her up on stage (and serenaded her) that night!

As the July sun warmed her face, Sophie clicked through pictures from the show, reminiscing. Suddenly, she had an idea. What if there was a space where she could share the details of this surreal experience, connect with other music/boyband enthusiasts, try her hand at reviewing albums, and just generally geek out over her favorite artists? It was in that moment that A Perfect Playlist was born.

These days, Sophie works as a Promotions Assistant for a few of her favorite radio stations. In her free time, Sophie reads like crazy – typically fiction and sci-fi. Her favorite book is “Daisy Jones and The Six” by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Sophie also collects records, dabbles in digital art and attempts to run. She lives in Portland, Oregon with her orange tabby cat, Bob.

Since 2014, A Perfect Playlist has expanded its audience and content. Sophie has interviewed artists such as Rozzi, La Bouquet, Sophia James, and most importantly, (in her opinion) Siva from The Wanted. She continues to review albums, attend endless concerts, and curate a playlist for every mood.

Okay, let’s be real — I wrote everything here.

And, I’ll always be a fangirl at heart.

  2. […] I can’t believe it’s been a decade since I pressed “publish” on my first post in the summer of 2014, shortly after being pulled up on stage by The Wanted. (You can read my blog’s full origin story here.) […]
