An Interview with Tom from Plain White T’s

In the summer of 2007, “Hey There Delilah” dominated local radio, reaching #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in July. In 2008, the track was nominated for Song of The Year and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals at the 50th Grammy Awards. Despite losing to Amy Winehouse’s “Before He Cheats,” “Hey There Delilah” has etched itself into collective memory as a timeless earworm and go-to karaoke song. Time magazine even named the track one of The 10 Best Songs of 2007, ranking it number seven.

The Plain White T’s music has been featured in a variety of TV shows and movies, such as Greek, Switched At Birth, and One Tree Hill. They also guest starred and performed on an episode of iCarly! (A personal favorite of mine.)

After twelve records/EPs and over 17 years in the music scene, the band continues to create music and tour the world. Their most recent album, “Plain White T’s,” dropped in November of last year, and they’re currently on their 2024 “Fired Up” Tour. They’ll be in Portland on January 24th at Hawthorne Theatre!

I chatted with Tom Higgenson, lead singer of Plain White T’s, about what the band has been up to lately, their new record, Stranger Things and more! Watch below.
